Novel linear programming approach for building a piecewise nonlinear binary classifier with a priori accuracy

چکیده
a r t i c l e i n f o This paper describes a novel approach to build a piecewise (non)linear surface that separates individuals from two classes with an a priori classification accuracy. In particular, total classification with a good generalization level can be obtained, provided no individual belongs to both classes. The method is iterative: at each iteration a new piece of the surface is found via the solution of a Linear Programming model. Theoretically , the larger the number of iterations, the better the classification accuracy in the training set; numerically , we also found that the generalization ability does not deteriorate on the cases tested. Nonetheless, we have included a procedure that computes a lower bound to the number of errors that will be generated in any given validation set. If needed, an early stopping criterion is provided. We also showed that each piece of the discriminating surface is equivalent to a neuron of a feed forward neural network (FFNN); so as a byproduct we are providing a novel training scheme for FFNNs that avoids the minimization of non convex functions which, in general, present many local minima. We compare this algorithm with a new linear SVM that needs no pre tuning and has an excellent performance on standard and synthetic data. Highly encouraging numerical results are reported on synthetic examples , on the Japanese Bank dataset, and on medium and small datasets from the Irvine repository of machine learning databases.

The fuzzy approach has undergone a profound structural transformation in the past few decades. Numerous studies have been undertaken to explain fuzzy approach for linear and nonlinear programs. While, the findings in earlier studies have been conflicting, recent studies of competitive situations indicate that fractional programming problem has a positive impact on comparative scenario. متن کاملHybrid model predictive control of a nonlinear three-tank system based on the proposed compact form of piecewise affine model
In this paper, a predictive control based on the proposed hybrid model is designed to control the fluid height in a three-tank system with nonlinear dynamics whose operating mode depends on the instantaneous amount of system states. The use of nonlinear hybrid model in predictive control leads to a problem of mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) which is very complex and time consuming t...
متن کاملCoordinated Planning and Scheduling of Electricity and Natural Gas Systems
In this paper we propose a model for coordinated planning of power and natural gas systems, as a part of electricity supply chain. This model takes into account costs and constraints of both systems, and with hiring simplifications and linearization methods transforms initially nonlinear formulation to a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem. Natural gas would be assumed steady state,...
متن کاملApproximate explicit receding horizon control of constrained nonlinear systems
An algorithm for the construction of an explicit piecewise linear state feedback approximation to nonlinear constrained receding horizon control is given. It allows such controllers to be implemented via an efficient binary tree search, avoiding real-time optimization. This is of significant benefit in applications that requires low real-time computational complexity or software complexity. The...

Background: Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) might be manifested as structural changes in bone through modification, adaptation or direct destruction. We propose to use Local Binary Pattern (LBP) characteristics and histogram-oriented gradients on the recorded images as a diagnostic tool in TMD assessment.Material and Methods: CBCT images of 66 patients (132 joints) with TMD and 66 normal...
